Friday, December 12 – “The Almighty Has Done Great Things for Me”
Scripture
“Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.’”
Luke 1:39–47
Reflection
In Mary’s Magnificat, heaven and earth meet in a song of praise. The humble maiden
of Nazareth becomes the first missionary of the Gospel as she carries Christ to Elizabeth.
Her joy is contagious; her faith, prophetic. She magnifies the Lord not by adding to His
greatness, but by allowing His greatness to shine through her.
Our Lady of Guadalupe reminds the Church that this same God who chose Mary
continues to choose the lowly, the poor, and the humble to bear His message. Her image,
radiant with stars, proclaims that the Word made flesh belongs to all peoples.
For the EOHSJ, Mary’s Magnificat is a call to rejoice in service and to see every act
of charity as a proclamation of the Gospel. To magnify the Lord is to let His mercy flow
through us, especially toward the forgotten and the suffering.
Her words, “He has looked with favor on His servant,” remind us that Advent joy
springs from humility. When we empty ourselves, God fills us with His presence.
Prayer
O Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe, teach me to magnify the Lord through humility,
charity, and joy. May my life reflect the greatness of His mercy. Amen.
Meditation Question
How can I make my life a “Magnificat” — a living song of praise to God?
