Friday, December 5 – “According to Your Faith, Let It Be Done”
Scripture
“As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, crying loudly, ‘Have
mercy on us, Son of David!’ When he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and
Jesus said to them, ‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’ They said to him, ‘Yes, Lord.’
Then he touched their eyes and said, ‘According to your faith let it be done to you.’ And
their eyes were opened.” Matthew 9:27–31
Reflection
Two blind men follow Jesus, crying out for mercy. Their prayer is simple, desperate,
and sincere, “Son of David, have mercy on us.” They cannot yet see the Lord, but they
believe in Him, and that faith opens the door to healing. Jesus responds not to their
eloquence, nor to their worthiness, but to their trust. “According to your faith, let it be
done.”
Advent is a pilgrimage of faith. Like the blind men, we walk toward the Light we
cannot yet fully see. We carry within us the longing for healing, for clarity, for redemption.
And the Lord asks each of us the same question: Do you believe that I am able to do this?
It is a question that pierces to the soul, for it is not only about physical sight, but about
spiritual vision, the ability to recognize Christ’s presence already at work among us.
As members of the EOHSJ, this Gospel is a summons to faith that acts. The two
men followed Jesus despite their blindness, a symbol of perseverance in prayer and fidelity
to the mission even when the way is dark. To live the vocation of the Order is to walk by
faith, not by sight; to serve and give even amid uncertainty, trusting that Christ’s light will
illumine the path ahead.
Faith in Advent is not passive optimism; it is a daring surrender to the mercy of God.
When we come before Christ with that humble confidence, “Yes, Lord, I believe”, He never
fails to open our eyes to the glory of His love.
Prayer
Merciful Jesus, open the eyes of my heart to see Your presence in all things.
Strengthen my faith, that I may trust in Your power to heal and renew. Help me to walk in
Your light and to bring Your compassion to others who still dwell in darkness. Amen.
Meditation Question
What areas of my life need the healing touch of Christ’s mercy? How is He inviting
me to walk by faith and not by sight this Advent?
