Sunday, December 14 – “Rejoice in the Lord Always”

Scripture

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known

to everyone. The Lord is near.” Philippians 4:4–7

Reflection

Midway through Advent, the Church pauses to rejoice. The rose candle is lit, the

vestments lighten, and St. Paul’s exhortation resounds: “Rejoice, the Lord is near.” This

joy is not naive or shallow; it is the fruit of trust. We rejoice not because life is easy, but

because Christ is faithful.

True Christian joy is rooted in presence, the presence of the Lord who draws near

in silence, humility, and love. His nearness transforms anxiety into peace and fear into

hope. Advent joy does not ignore the world’s pain; it proclaims that even there, God is at

work.

For the EOHSJ, Gaudete Sunday is a reminder that service and mission must always

spring from joy. The care of the Holy Land, the support of the Church, and the defense of

the faith are not burdens but privileges, flowing from love for Christ. Joy is the mark of

authentic discipleship, the quiet strength of those who know whom they serve.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are my joy and my peace. Teach me to rejoice in Your nearness and

to share that joy with others through gentleness and love. Amen.

Meditation Question

How can I cultivate deeper joy in my Advent journey, even amid life’s challenges?
