Sunday, November 30 – “Come, Let Us Walk in the Light of the Lord”Scripture

“In days to come the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; all the nations shall stream to it. Many

peoples shall come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.’”

Isaiah 2:2–5

Reflection

Advent opens with a vision of ascent. Isaiah sees a world gathered around the mountain of the Lord, a world where swords are beaten into ploughshares and nations walk together in the light of God’s peace. This prophecy, ancient yet ever new, is fulfilled in Christ, who draws all peoples to Himself. For the Christian pilgrim, the “mountain of the Lord” is not a distant summit but the life of grace, the journey from darkness to light, from self to God. Each act of charity, each prayer offered, each sacrifice made is a step upward. To walk in the light of the Lord means to let His truth illumine our path, even when the way is steep. As Members of the EOHSJ know well this call to pilgrimage. The Holy Land itself, where Christ walked, is a living sign of Isaiah’s vision: a place where God revealed His peace amid the struggles of human history. As we journey through Advent, we too are summoned to that spiritual ascent, to lift our gaze, to seek the things that are above, and to let the radiance of Christ dispel the shadows of sin and division. “Come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.” This is both a call and a promise. Advent’s light is not our own; it is His. We walk by faith until the dawn breaks in full glory at His coming.

Prayer

O God of light, draw me nearer to Your holy mountain. Teach me to walk in Your

ways and to live as a bearer of peace. May my heart be a lamp that shines with Your

presence and guides others toward Your truth. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Meditation Question

What does it mean for me, in my vocation and daily life, to “walk in the light of the

Lord”? Where is God calling me to climb higher in faith and charity?
