Wednesday, December 10“Those Who Wait for the Lord Shall Renew Their Strength”

Scripture

“They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with

wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah

40:25–31

Reflection

Isaiah’s words are a hymn of endurance. In times of exile and weariness, the prophet

reminds Israel that the Lord never tires, never grows faint. To “wait for the Lord” is not

idle patience but active hope, trusting that God is at work even when we cannot see His

plan.

Advent is this sacred waiting. We wait not in despair, but in confidence; not as those

uncertain of the dawn, but as those who know that dawn is coming. Our waiting strengthens

us, because it turns our gaze away from ourselves toward the One who gives strength to

the weary.

For the EOHSJ, these words speak to the perseverance of faith amid trials. The

mission in the Holy Land, the defense of Christian witness, the daily striving for holiness,

all demand endurance rooted in hope. Those who wait upon the Lord will rise again,

sustained by His Spirit.

The eagle of Isaiah’s vision soars not by its own strength, but on the winds that lift

it. So too, we are carried by grace.

Prayer

Lord, teach me to wait for You with faith and courage. Renew my strength in times

of weariness, and lift my heart to soar above discouragement. Amen.

Meditation Question

How is God calling me to wait with hope in a particular situation of my life or

mission?
