Tuesday, December 9 – “Come to Me, All You Who Are Weary”
Scripture
“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give
you rest.” Matthew 11:28-30
Reflection
Advent is often filled with activity — both spiritual and worldly. Yet Jesus’ words
today invite us to a quieter preparation: “Come to me.” This is not a command to do more,
but to be with Him. The Lord offers not escape from life’s burdens, but rest in Him.
The yoke of Christ is the yoke of love. When we surrender to His will, our souls
find balance and peace. The proud resist such a yoke, but the humble, like Mary, like John
the Baptist, discover freedom in obedience. The One who calls us to carry His cross first
carries us.
As members of the EOHSJ, this Gospel speaks of faithful endurance. To serve the
Holy Land, to bear the burdens of charity, to defend the faith, all these require the peace
that comes from Christ alone. The true knight’s strength is not in armor, but in gentleness;
not in might, but in meekness.
Christ does not demand that we earn His love. He simply asks that we come to Him,
weary, burdened, imperfect, and receive His rest.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I come to You with my burdens and weariness. Give me rest in Your
mercy and strength to serve with a peaceful heart. Amen.
Meditation Question
What burdens am I carrying that I need to place in the hands of Christ this Advent?
